Public Private Partnerships for Artificial Insemination Delivery

Addressing genetic constraints to dairy productivity

Ethiopia and Tanzania combined boast the third largest dairy herd in the world. Yet, both countries are annual net importers of dairy products. Small, medium and large dairy operations have made strides to improve animal health and on-farm practices that contribute to increased productivity, but without access to reliable AI service with improved genetics, farmers will continue to struggle to meet growing demand for dairy products.

The PAID project, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is working to address these challenges through direct partnerships with each country’s respective National Artificial Insemination Centers, relevant Ministries and the private sector to develop channels for timely, efficient delivery of AI service while inciting private sector investments that will lead to the inclusive growth of the dairy sector.
